Case Study 4:

Mary’s Story

Mary is a busy mum who is in a senior role in a career and has experience, knowledge and the training to prove this. During her time at work she began to realise that although good at her job it isn’t always lighting her up. One of her interests is in design and she needed support in deciding if this would be an appropriate career move for her.

When working together we looked at how Mary could manage her current job role and do her evening classes. I provided her with research and information about the type of design roles she could do. Plus sources where she could find out more about this profession so she ease into the transition.

Mary is now studying toward this course and working. She is looking at realistic roles she can apply to. Whilst still working in her current role.

What Mary had to say about her experience:

Soma supported me at a time where I was really unhappy at work and confused about going into a creative career. Whilst working with Soma I was able to explore and see what career options were available for me in art and design. I have always been interested in this but I wanted to see if this was just the hobbyist part of me vs the actual part that wanted a career in this field.

Soma introduced me to someone in this field of work and also did research around courses and other career routes to help me with my decision.

I really appreciated the careers advice and information and it helped me realise I wanted to pivot in my current role and look at other industries within my sector. I was then able to get a new job and I really enjoy where I work now.
